How old is this koi and is it male? I really like conformation especially if nisai. SHiro and Sumi seem to be coming on nicely and together. Beni seems less developed than other colors but maybe photo. Pattern is very nice.

Extra difficult to judge Gin Rin from a photo. What you want is as many very strong straight rows of GR starting right behind the head and extending all the way to the tial without gaps that break the lines of GR. Also if the GR is too strong it will diminish the quality of the beni and sumi. If the quality/thickness of the sumi and or beni is too strong it will diminish the appearance of the Gin Rin.

It is very difficult to find a high quality Showa. Even more difficult to find a high quality GR showa. Factor in that GR showa has one of the very lowest yields of any variety and good ones can get pretty pricey.

This one looks to be a great ride and lots of fun to watch develop. Congratulatons

Thumbs up

Interesting pattern. Torpedo shape and tinge of yellow on the face would make it appear male. Nice looking pecs, good laquer black, and deep hi. The top of the head almost looks like a yin/yan symbol. Very nice looking koi

Kudos to the breeder, and why do you think he let him go?
Disregarding that the breeder knows his fish and must have seen something in this fish.
Once that head lightens and darkens, and the body fills out there won't be much better around....
and as Ray said, GR Photos are almost worthless. To see the ginrin on most fish you have to either reposition yourself or the fish so you can amke sure the scales are all ginrin and line up.

It's an attractive pattern. I can never really comment on photos of GR because in my estimation a GR is well a GR and that's the first matter of importance...the pattern is secondary. I can never tell if a GR is any good until I take it out into the light outdoors and check each GR scale for allignment and that it shows thru each color equally especial up close to the head in the shoulder area.

in showa's the weakest link has always been the beni and it's difficult to get a nice red thru the GR scales. I do agree it looks male, but a nice addition to any pond!

As i have watched the progress of showa breeders over the last decade, Isa comes to the forfront easily and you know what? Oomo has done an amazing job
to come from being a fabric merchant to a creditable showa breeder in a few short years.
thanks for posting you koi!

GR Showa

Nico

What are you waiting for?? This is as nice a GR showa as you'll find without going to Japan yourself and paying large sums of yen for one. The others are correct in their assumption that it appears to be a male. If nisai (more than likely) it has done a credible job of growing. Body conformation could be improved. Depending on your size pond and your fish load, I would guess that this fish could attain 24"-26" in the next 2 years. Not bad for a male. The only thing about GR fish is that if the sumi gets too thick, it usually covers the GR.

Anyway, depending on what the dealer is charging for the fish, I would say between $500-$750 US would be a fair deal

Good luck! If you buy it, keep us posted on it's development next year.

Regards

Mike
