IMHO, "goi" refers to "koi" or carp fish. But it's used as japanese grammar to be put after an adjective words, i.e. benigoi . Maybe Aquitore could explain it much better than me...

Cheers,

well, goi versus koi is a little ambiguous, as both are western language spellings - perhaps those who are fluent in Japanese here can elaborate. But the difficulty of trying to translate without context is - the same character can have multiple meanings in Japanese. For example, if you enter "koi" in an online English to Japanese dictionary, you'll get something like this
Quote:
Results for 'koi'
Japanese English
koi carp
koi request
koi love, tender passion
koi ancient ways, the feelings of the ancients
koi intention, purpose, bad faith
koi thick, dense, strong
I think "carp" is the meaning most of us think of when we say it

Edit: This is why I always GROAN when I see a westerner with a tattoo incorporating asian characters. A lot of times those characters don't really mean what the sign on the tattoo parlor wall says they mean - or they could be interpreted several different ways.

"Goi" is what the word "koi" becomes when compounded with another word. In Japanese, there are patterns used to make the pronunciation of compounded words sound softer.

K becomes G
S becomes Z
T becomes D
etc, etc.

If you're really interested, I can show some word examples to make this clearer.
