With no control over this virus it may come down to certifing all koi imported to UK and even the US. There are even rumors of Sakai Isawa having KHV, I dont know how valid the rumor is but these breeders should step up and do what Momotaro did. JMHO.

QUESS THIS KIND OF CONCERN RE-ENFORCES kb'S COMMITTMENT TO PROMOTING A CURE FOR THE CULPRIT......

so if your the government in either country mentioned do you shut down export and help kill buisnesses on either side of the ocean? Or if your worried about bird flu do you shut down all your major airports and cripple your airline companies?

I think it might be sage to hold Momo taro up as an example of how to act responsibily and encourage all dealers and hobbists to run their stocks thru
a proper q system. I have friends in the hobby as well as dealers who just brought in a load of Isawa koi and are slowly upping the temps while they're in
isolation.

This rumour comes around at least once a year, often propogated by the importers of koi from other countries. One dealer chain actually imported a load of small koi a couple of years ago and grew them on in Wales and then used this as a sales ploy. I.e. their fish were KHV and couldn't be contaminated by Jap imports etc etc.

KHV has been a sad fact of life in this country for several years even at the time when the dealers were burying their heads in the sand and saying it didn't exist.

Most of the quality dealers these days are very public about their quarantine regimes and those of their sources in Japan.

Obviously any animal disease is investigated by the government and KHV is no exception but the actual confirmed cases are very low. SVC is officially more prominent and there has been no effort to stop the import of Carp for the liesure industry.

The BKKS meets regularly with CEFAS/DEFRA the two bodies that deal with this sort of thing and nothing has been mooted so far.

Talk about taking responsibility as a dealer - I was just on Champion Nishikigoi website. On the opening page there is a statement to click on titiled "Information on Niigata shipment" - It explains some problems with this year's shipment and what his quarantine protocol is - this is Tom's standard protocol for all shipments he receives. Also, of note, Tom informed me on Saturday that any customer who purchased any of the fish from Niigata shipment this year has been given a full refund on their purchase. NOW THAT'S BEING A RESPONSIBLE DEALER!!!
