I think the goals is to get those who have the fish to show to show...Kinda hard if those people dont want to bring their 5 to 6 figure fish out...and by the way where were you at? Did see you at the KoiKichi Show....

I have heard a lot about other shows. I would love to be able to go to some of them. I have heard the OKC is one hell of a show along with others.

As for the best koi in the US, I don't know if I would say CA has the best. We have a lot of top hobbyest with some outstanding koi. The nice thing about CA and FL we get to enjoy our ponds all year around. If I could only see one pond in the US, I would visit Dan and Gene's pond. From what I have seen from pictures they have one of the best collection of koi right now. Years ago I would have said Tom Lansing, both of these ponds are not in CA.

Tony I was hoping to make the show, but it didn't work out for me. My daughter had soccer all day Saturday, and Sunday was messed up because of work. I had to put in a 14 hour day Sunday at work, so that killed it for me.

If I had that kind of money to buy 5 to 6 figure fish I wouldn't bring them out also. To much risk if you ask me. For those that do I think it's great that they will take that kind of risk to show them to others. Do many people have 6 figure fish in the US? If so, I think they need to see a shrink. I know a guy that spent $12,000 on a koi and it was dead in two weeks.

Wow, how awfull. I remember a story told of a guy bought this beautiful Aka matsuba for over 5 g's and it was dead three days after purchase. Ran to the phone with a siphon tube going in Q tank. I don't think he ever got over it.

What a new civility shown Luke by Steve Hieght! It appears to be a concious effort on Steve's part;: I must comment; Thank you Steve.

I think that folks in the upper midwest DO NOT think of Nashville, or Memphis. or any part of Tennessee as the midwest. It is the south, not the deep south, but the south. What say you Tennessee? What say Kentucky (north of Tennessee for those who may have forgotten)? Florida and California fellas are calling you Midwesterners. Is this some modernity I have missed? Did Tennessee go North?

This Tennessee show is greatly anticipated even though I'll have to skip the Chicago show to go to Koiphen's show.. There was talk previously on this board of some assurances of accomodation to encourage the entering of spectacular fish. I am hoping the efforts of Mr. Height, Mr. Cash and Mr. Childers are successful and the show is huge for me, and us, to enjoy. Will that size factor bring it prestige? Not in my opinion. Is there a good possibility that large high quality fish, Japanese guests, English guests, Florida, California, Arizona, Virginia and Texas guests would make it a prestigious show. Pretty sure bet. (What! New Jersey guests weren't included!? HRUMPH Actually I meant fish guest from those states.)

Not as a matter of prestige but a matter of learning., the judges discussions on Sunday morning are great times for me to learn but it is hard for me to figure out what is going on sometimes when the politics of who owns what fish cloud over the facts.

There is a great warm feeling in me knowing that next year I will be going to Orlando, All-Bay, and Koiphen. The year looks good.

Mick,
in public, outside his domain, in the light of day, and
duh swing goes dis way, and duh swing goes daht way.

JG,
if St Ephen books you a room you better plan on debating with Val....That will be part of his entertainment budget. (and I am assuming that three tickets are for you, your wife, and ME!

Nice thing about OKC

Is the "battle" between the Downs' and D&G. Tom, the Downs' have an equally impressive collection of Koi as D&G and the show down there is litterally the OK corral! Reminds me of the days between Joe Coe and Tom Lansing.

Awe now those were the days, Joe Co took ZNA Grand Champion 4 years in a row. San Diego I think 2 years in a row.. It is a shame that politics and petty jealousy took them out of the show ring. Joe is a very good friend of ours, and has encouraged us to keep showing along with Larry Gill. We had decided to quit showing because of all the politics and jealousy. They both talked to frank and I, and told us to keep showing our prized collection. We will be out at ZNA with our girls and a few new ones. People that spend 4 and 5 digits on koi, and are willing to bring them out should be commended and not critisized. The hobby needs these people to allow the hobbiest to expand there knowledge and improve there eye..

QUOTE: Steve Height. I tried one show & it will be my one & only. Sadly,The Hate/Jealousy/Envy meter pegged for some individuals.
Stephen If all us hobbiest that have encountered the same hate/jealousy/envy etc.... All quit showing what would be left at shows? or would there be a need for shows?

Nancy, you and Frank are true Hobbyist in my mind. You pick your own koi make the trip across the pond. Eat breath and sleep koi and never get tired of it. You guys bring your koi out for all of us to see and compare.

Many thanks to you and Frank to continue to show..

I think hobbyist have to be at a certain level to show and show consistently.

You have to understand how to...
...pick which fish are best for a particular show for that time of year
...condition fish for a show
...handel, bag and transport fish
...care for them when they return from a show

Joe's right. Nancy/Frank and all the others that continue to show fish, deserve our thanks and admiration. It's not something that every hobbyist out there can do.
