QUOTE: Steve Height. I tried one show & it will be my one & only. Sadly,The Hate/Jealousy/Envy meter pegged for some individuals.
Stephen If all us hobbiest that have encountered the same hate/jealousy/envy etc.... All quit showing what would be left at shows? or would there be a need for shows?
I personally talk hella shiyt at shows....feelings will be hurt from time to time, but you have to suck it up....people take this hobby way to seriously....This hobby is about the shiyt talking, beer and fun/food....
Talking smack is half the fun and part of any competition. Not to place words into Steve's mouth, but I think he is referring to folks who are more of the "arm chair QB". Want to tell everyone how it should be done even though they have never done SQUAT themselves.

I was fortunate enough to show at three shows on the East Coast this year - even brought home some nice $6 trophies - but the most fun was talking smack and even better being able to ride home (12 hours) talking smack to your shotgun the whole way

My hat is off to Nancy and Frank as it is to Steve, Tom, Dan and Gene and those who have allowed us to experience their beautiful koi. I hope that Steve will change his mind - hopefully with your encouragement and that of others he will someday show again.

Joe's right. Nancy/Frank and all the others that continue to show fish, deserve our thanks and admiration. It's not something that every hobbyist out there can do.

To show at a certain level then there would be no one showing, everyone starts from the bottom and slowly moves their way up in the show scene. The above list you mentioned is all part of the learning curve, everyone goes through it...Without trying it how would anyone experience it. Nancy and Frank are at a level someone of us wish they could be. All I know is that they do this hobby because they like it, if they could win a couple of trophies here and there I back them as well as the "Unit" backs them 100%.

You're right, there are many ways to support shows such as helping in the set up and breakdown, helping to organize the event, etc. There are easier ways to show as well. You can have your dealer handel and bring your fish to the show or simply buy a fish at the show and enter it. There are many ways to be part of the experience and support the show.

I was mainly talking about the people who show consistently, travel for shows and bring home those $6 trophies. It's their high quality fish that we learn from the most and those fish that we remember the show for aside from the beer, food, people and shiyt talking.

Alot of these comments seems to be aimed at the "Koi-Unit". Stephen's personal challenge was certainly aimed at Aquitori. Not that they need defending but I don't think it's accurate to call them armchair anything.

They've supported every show in Northern California that I've heard of and many shows in Southern California. When I say support, it's not just showing up. They do all the other stuff that help make the shows successful - set-up, tear-down, benching, basicaly whatever needs doing.

As far as accomplishments go, if it's about having a good eye and understanding what makes a koi good, then you can show that thru winning baby champ(s). If it's about koi husbandry, then you can show that thru winning mature champ(s). The koi unit folks have done this so that deserves some acknowledgement.

They seem like a bunch of young, enthusiastic hobbyist that have knowledge and energy to share. Why not let them do that?

OK, My bad. Since you were quoting Stephen and Stephen had issued Aquitori challenge, I thought you were talking about the same set of people. I apologize since you weren't.

Tony: I'm handling vendor coordination during the show, but I'm sure there will some time when I can break away. Like to see the whole Koi-Unit at the March show!
