Sign of the Season

Hearing of snow falling in the northern U.S. this week, for a moment I had the sense of missing the change of seasons. Then I spent some time watching a bee hover around a Sasanqua camellia. I guess the light scent drew her away from the perennial coleus. 'Tis a sign of the approaching winter season of camellias in bloom. The koi pond was down to 68F this morning.

We had a high of 44 yesterday and two consecutive nights of lows in the 20's, but my pond temp has remained 60-62...We get four seasons here with temps only getting into single digits a few days a winter and a little bit of snow...I love having the four seasons without staying frozen all winter!

iT'S SNOWING LIKE CRACY UP IN THE MOUNTAINS! Suppose to be another 6 inches this evening...Here on the west slope near the ocean, temps during the day are up to mid/lower 40's.

All my blue babies are down as low as they go at 55 F....

speaking of camillea...I use their oil to shine up my bonsai pots!

I hate the friggin snow!!!! Its COLD here!!! My pond is 40deg at the bottom (have a probe to check it.). The top has started to ice over and I have my floating heater and air pump running. Guess its time to play with my other hobby...reef fish tank. Koi are pretty much on their own until spring.

The low today was 72 and the high was only 74. The ponds are already down to 73. It looks like another hard cold winter. On the bright side, we don't have to worry about the heating bill. No heater, no AC, no glass in the windows.

In my part of the world, we have never ever had snow. Sometimes, I dream that it'll be fun to have, maybe once, just for the experience of it. Well, for those having freezing cold weather, keep your hearts always warm will you all?

December Flowers

Too much snow in so many photos lately. Here, it is cool and rather overcast, but the Camellia sasanqua are still in bloom, Camellia japonicas are starting, Begonias enjoy the cool and a Tillandsia sends out its pink flowers. Pond water temperature was 62F at 7am.

Wow, my pond dropped all the way down to 65, almost frozen solid.

I really wish we had some snow to complain about.
