update on isawa shipment

A bit a go, it was rumored that KHV was now at Sakai Isawa. The discussion from the post centered around rumors and also correct procedure to insure
proper quaranteening.

The tosai, nisai, sansai and yonsai ( we're talking a good cross section here)
are doing well. They have two weeks under their belts and will go for one more week. ( usually by 10 days you know if you have a problem)

neither the shipment fish or test fish are showing anything.

The koi were scraped upon arrival and were treated for flukes.

just thought you'd like to know...I think rumors don't help anywhere along the chain from producers to dealers to koi keepers.

Thumbs up

I had heard rumors that Sakai was closed down until April
I spoke with Kentaro in Kobe last week and that rumor is just that
They are open for business
Kentaro brought some koi to the ZNA Show in Kobe all were excellent
In particular a 82cm Kohaku owned by Richard Tan from Singapore
This koi was selected #3 in the running for Grand Champion and 9cm smaller in length. I am convinced that this Koi would have taken the Title had it been a little bigger and expect to see her back in another year or two taking a major title. Sakai really has outstanding Kohaku

Sakai Isawa = Toshio Sakai = Matsunosuke
Kentaro Sakai = Son of Hiroshima Sakai.
Totally different breeder. So not sure the relation between the two posts. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hiroshima and isawa are two different breeders who happen to share the same name. Thanks for the clarification for some of our readers who may not know the difference.

I understood Tony"s point to be that this particular breeder also had rumors this past spring swirling around them which ALSO PROVED TO BE FALSE.

Richard Tan has been a serious collector for years. His showa called "shogun" from a few years back was extra ordinary.

Angry Rumors Suck!!!

I don't know what it is, but some people just like to be the first to bring bad news to the world, especially the Koi world.

It's sad

But one of our local club members wasn't even home from Japan before they started with the Sakai Hiroshima rumors. And they never even went there!. They were in Niigata the entire time.

Rumors are good and bad...now if it takes rumors for breeders to come clean about what they got then so be it. The Japanese tend to be a closed society when it comes to problems and do I see it as a pride issue then yes...But for now I think the ministry of fisheries should compile a list of breeders who have had problems with KHV and who have solved their situation...This in turn saves the dealer and the hobbyist time and money with dealing such bad batches of koi. JMHO...

I'm afraid I don't understand, if they GOT IT, then it ain't no rumor! If they don't it hurts everyone. Do you think a quality koi is gonna be cheaper or healthier next year if you start a rumor about the breeder? What the hell kind of sense does that make?

The person mentioned above also was responsible for rumors of local KHV last year, which made the hobbiest that owned the fish very happy because they didn't have to face the reality that it was THEM that killed their koi. It's easier to blame someone or something else than it is to take responsibility yourself.

The only thing rumors serve is the slimy kind of people that get off on causing problems.

It's true, that hobbyist takes 100% of the blame when it comes to their fish. Now if Sakai Isawa has no KHV then their should be nothing to worry about. Dick already clarified it he has no KHV.....So the rumors are not true....

now this IS funny.....ya all talking about "coming clean", but you can't even mention the person that you know is spreading the rumors, So how or why the heck would you think the breeders would be open...you guys are behaving and thinking just like the breeders.

Im still twisted around by how the Koi world isn't concerned with the fact that a breeder got KHV from someone and even though he knows who it was he won't publically say who it is....to me this means that there isa breeder out there that is closely associated with him that has KHV, and therefore does a great deal of damage to all those that are associated to him.
Whereas just having that breeder/dealer step forward and say where he got it from would give us a public trail to follow to understand how this disease is working its way through the industry...
till it is all out in the open without the "cloak and dagger" BS these rumors will be believed and be damaging
