Identifying a look

If all things were equal, money or availability was not a concern, and you wanted to acquire the first koi for your new 150 ton show pond and it was to be a kohaku of your taste, would you pick the traditional sandan pattern koi or are you finding this perfect three step look boring?

GarySan, If I had unlimited budget I would have a tancho Kohak, nidan, sandan, yondon, godan Inazuma etc etc... HAhahaha

One nice thing about a Sandan Kohak is that the classic pattern will also compliment something unusual..

Well, if we were to just focus on pattern, I would still pick this fish up...Even thou the pattern is boring I would still pick up a traditional patterned stepped Kohak...Here's one for everyone, pick one out of these four....

It's hard to put an all japan winner in 2nd place but based on pattern only, i'd say

a, c, b, d

C,D,A,B. Maybe not by the book, but I like the uniqueness of the patterns on C & D, particularly the narrow band on C's shoulder. Plus the shiroji on those two seems much cleaner.

(If I had read further to dcny's post I wouldn't have made the original "not by the book" disclaimer )

sorry I don't have a picture to post...but does anyone remember the olde hook patterns that hasegawa's original parents used to throw? I loved those koi because the patterns were so unique!

I had to admitt it but I really am getting bored with a Technically coirrect pattern
