First thing I noticed with this fish was the white ground and body confirmation. Both very nice at this age. I think this young koi has good potential for growth in the right home. Actually I like the pattern on the nose. I think as this fish grows and gains some bulk, the cute little pattern on the nose will draw the eye of the judges, not distract as long as the rest of the fish has good stuff happening. I like her a lot!!

I have a novice question! (I guess all of my questions would be novice questions)

Is the sashi of this fish uneven, and what, if anything, does that indicate about this fish?

as a general rule, yes, sashi should be even (side to side and hi plate to hi plate) and one or two scale rows deep.

Remembering that we're judging a picture here (not a koi), and that this photo is neither large nor detailed, the sashi on the shoulder hi plate does look a bit ragged side to side -- which might or might not be the case were the koi to be viewed in person.

And, we don't like uneven sashi because it is not likely to finish evenly?

Looking good to me! Do you have any more pics maybe at an angle similar to the first photo?

Now Im a kohaku nut. One, the koi looks good to me , body and tail tube looks fine and shoulders and shiro are great. I dont see a thing wrong with this koi except it needs time to finish. Nice thick good looking koi . Wonder what's the price.
