yes the saint decides who are the sinners and protects the flock...then again we all know what the "protector of the flock" does to the flock

I see this thread as very worthwhile topic...it is an open discussion of the morals and ethics within the hobby.
To bully the posters who are trying to have an open discussion about this topic is to try and support the one of the hobby's amoral characteristics...it would be best served to choose a position and debate with others...
Personally I think that it should be established in writing what is expected in the smaller sizes and judge accordingly....Perhaps "tategoi" and "finished" smaller sizes should be promoted...the Hobby has far more hobbyists that could compete in the smaller "finished" categories...having the small fish judged on the basis that they are expected to become "better" and larger means the "smaller" hobbyists get left with nothing to compete for, and the show is set-up for only the "big fish" hobbyists.
a 2000 gallon pond owner should be raising koi that "mature" at 12 inches

I agree completely brutuscz - but as long as people sit here and take pot shots, and factually incorrect ones at that, people are going to feel compelled to reply. Koiphen isn't just a board - its a group of friends and I'm not the only one who tires of people constantly bashing my friends. I expect that kind of crap on newt's boards, and don't bother with those boards - but I expect better from Brian's.

Where did I say you posted material that was not appropriate? I said your posts are not like most of the posts on this board. I don't determine what is "appropriate". IMO though your posts are not in the spirit of this board. I'm going back to serious discussions about koi now and will leave your posts to you and all of your friends from the other boards because based on your replies thats whom you really want to talk with.

Yeah, I haven't been on so often but I still try to read threads when I can! So far there has been a lot of conflict with this Koiphen circle in a lot of threads? Seems they're a little more rude and unrespectful in commenting or responding to others questions. We don't need to compete with each other as far as organizations, east or west. We ain't the Crips and the Bloods! We put fish in a tank, then compare and appreciate them. Along with the owners NO MATTER WHAT THE SIZE CLASS. I guess my take on the whole thing, is think before you say something to avoid conflict.

Peace!

Anyway I have some nice bozai's and I'm trying to find out what to do with them, and this thread is helping me out! I'm trying to feel out if it's OK to show them or not. They can't help they're smaller when they came out the pond, or could they?

See, coco, this is exactly what I'm talking about - people here constantly take shots at koiphen, and then you blame koiphen for the problems. Take a good hard look at who's instigating here.

Good point. My apologies for getting distracted. They are judged by size not age so I have no problem with it. Afterall you try to grow them large fast so they have a more youthful look in the larger classes and nobody has a problem with it so apply the opposite. Keep em small as long as possible so they have a more finished look in the smaller sizes. Same thing. At a koi show size matters.

Chris, dont worry how old they are and just show them. Remember koi shows are beauty contests as long as you maintain a youthfulness to your koi they can compete. Shot I was competeing Bonsai Nisai at shows and doing pretty well.
