I have no problem with it. I have a friend that travels to S Africa and I actually understand more about Apartheid, coloured people, Afrikaners and Nelson Mandela. I say if it is a annoying then do not read it, I like to learn something new once in a while and if the antagonism brings out the true opinion, so let it be, it is only information.

Agreed. The only reason I reacted with politics is because out of no where I was attacked with politics. No poor me at all, in fact I recognized immediately that my detractor had handed me an obvious ‘hypocritical club’ and I went with the flow of the conversation.

I did some checking around and as it turns out Pieter is a bit of a character and has torn up more than one board on the SA end of the hobby, using many aliases and basically using similar tactics of bomb throwing, then acting out and then trying to move to a higher moral ground. You can read more of his antics on the SA sites. The guy is just under ‘Internet ether’ is all.

MUISHOND is only one of several to have shown up recently that have displayed an appalling lack of civility. It's not because they failed Miss Manner's Courtesy 101 class; it's because they enjoy stirring things up.

Ban them or ignore them -- they'll have to go somewhere else to get their sick kicks.

Valarc, my 'friend,' you are starting to sound like Stephen. He advocates heavy moderation and has commented that Brian is at a 'turning point' and needs to moderate more. Why, so no one can fault him on a board he has no control over? Why should he, or you, care what Brian does on his board?

Rest assured, Newt's will always be about free speech with moderation in moderation, and I'm sure Brian can run his board just fine the way it is. Other than the troublemakers, who come and go, the members here are quite capable of knowing how to stay in line and on topic, and can easily ignore the fools who can't.

Valarc, sounds like you're campaigning for the moderator job here, no?

I assure you, if Brian's board turned into the den of filth and hatred that Newt's is - he would enact moderation quite swiftly.

I'm not campaigning for any job - I'm far too opinionated to be a moderator. I do think Brian desperately needs it, though - not to stop people from insulting me or Koiphen, but to stop people from trolling and flamebaiting - clogging up a commercial board in support of a magazine, where people come for serious koi conversation.

Koiphen, Koi-Bito, and Newt's all have their place - the first for a family like atmosphere with many people willing to bend over backwards to help each other, the second for a more serious koi discussion for those who dislike the community chit chat and want to stick to koi, and the third for the misfits who don't belong anywhere else.

I'm not trying to turn Koi Bito into Koiphen. I'm trying to KEEP it from turning into Newt's.
