Very interesting how the sumi is undeveloped to the same degree on most of the fish. I also noticed red patterns that lack balance. In two years, when the black fills in you have a whole different game. In person, a few of those fish would be interesting-they certainly have good hi plates and super bodies. The black needs to be seen in person and studied to make "an educated guess". For now, I'm a no vote. Sorry

These all look like good future fish. I would think c d a e b f and e as the tategoi pick?

For me the rank would be - C E D A F B . Tategoi - D

Here they are side by side so it's a little easier to compare. I had to shrink the images alittle so that I could attach it.

Like I know something, I'll say C, D, A, B, F, E and I'm calling D the fish to take home. E puzzles me because I don't see how the scrappy hi at the shoulder can come together. I'm also saying that the fish today, C, has nothing that attracts me, not even its blimpitude.

Wow, I can see the drift. He prefers fine controled hachiware and menware, no messy sumi on the head. Back to the books, thanks Ray!

kk . . .

JR once posted that Japanese breeders judge differently because they see the koi differently -- especially so when it's their own stock they're judging. They just can't help crystal balling it even when they're asked to judge for today.

So, yes, keeping that in mind allows one a glimpse of Isa-san's prophetic visions.

And thanks to you, Ray, for posting this thread.

Ray, did Isa discuss how he came to his choices?
