Welcome Collin... Good to see another hawk out here.... I'm fairly new, myself... But, it's good to have you with us...

I like what I've learned so far, and with you aboard it's going to be an adventure!

Is that a goshiki in your 5th picture?....

Hey Steve,

That's a beautiful Shusui!!!

Hi Adreamer2

I would do my utmost to make a positive contribution to the forum.

Yes it is a Goshiki she was bred on our farm 2 years ago. She also won the SAKKS 14th National Koi Show this year in the Goshiki variety in size 2BU.

It is up and down systems.

There are air stones in every filter chamber and we use a ring blower off 150l p/m to oxygenate the filter systems. The ponds are also oxygenated by a different ring blower of 3000l p/m this one is used for all 45 systems in our hatchery.

Sorry I do not understand (life k-1) explain please?

k-1 is a commercial sold media, very popular in europe and the USA. It looks like a wagon wheel with spokes and is small 3/8 inch diameter. heavy air circulates and tumbles this media which turns brown with bacteria and does an excllent job of cleaning water. It is sold by a company in europe called evoluntary Aqua or EA as they are known. They are in testing now with a new design known as k-3
and a new disc that looks interesting. Quess there are lots of interesting options out there for filter media. I have been using j-mat and Bacteria house media from Momotaro in my two systems serving the same water!

My favorite color varieties in the world are Asagi and shusui? Do you raise any of these at your farm? It's spring down under right? is breeding underway?

Hello

Welcome aboard

As Dick said, K-1 is a neutral buoyancy filter medium that is used is moving bed filters, and recently in static medium mechanical filters (easy)

Below is a picture of K-1 (bottom left) Bioflow 9 (bottom right) and on top a black one that I do not know a name of.

Hi Collin,

I want to take the time to welcome you to this forum too. You will find diverse opinions, views and methods here. Some of the folks here stay more up to date with filtration advances than many breeders feel a need to. Mostly it is out of passion for the hobby. Please do not take any one opinion as the board concensus. Most of the people here truly love the hobby. You will find some longstanding squabbles that kick in from time to time, either ignore or enjoy them. This could be great place for you to make some friends, both learn and teach, and hopefully ways for your breedery to become more successful will happen along too. I hope more folks from south africa join our forum. Hearing from others from another culture can really help us all to grow and learn. So welcome, and I hope you stick around with us.
