Hi All

Dick & Regenmeneer

K1 = Kaldness in South Africa. Yes the Kevbio Star work on the same principal it also spins with air and go brown with bacteria. We are making a + buoyant and a – buoyant Kevbio stars the + one is for a chamber that flow down and the – one is for a chamber that flow up.

Working on my koi farm is nice but it is vary hard work from 7am to 6pm every day in the sun. High summer temp’s 36-38 deg c or 96-100 deg f. Some days you work 24 hours a day like in the export season or during power failures.

Thank you, I am of the opinion that every koi keeper use what ever works best for him or her. We are all different and there for all the differed filter systems. But I will enjoy all the differences on the forum thank you.

Birdman ( Steve )

Thank you, and welcome to you to. I can see that there are lots of good ideas here.

Very nice indeed!

How far of a trip is your koi farm from Grabouw / Grayton area? My brother-in-law's family lives there (he and my sister moved to US 5 years ago to find work, but they still go home every other year to visit, and are after me to tag along next time.) Or I could send the folks over to find me a ringer.....can you export livestock to the U.S. or is that a no-no?

Hi mulberryjen

Grabouw is in the Western Cape area and we are north of Pretoria in Gauteng it is a bout 1400km from us. You will have to fly to Johannesburg from Cape TownAirport it is a 2 hour flight.

But yes we could export to US but not on South African Airways they did something wrong and was stopped by the US Government to fly livestock to the US. So any other airline will do. I.e. British Airways.

Where are you staying in the US? Need to know the flight time to the US.

I live in Louisville, Kentucky. SDF airport does not have any direct international flights. Possibly would make more sense to ship into Cincinnati, Ohio, which I know at least has direct flights to/from Gatwick in London. Excessive flight time b/c of too many stopovers may make it implausible.... but you would be a better judge of that than me.

Do you sell mostly to clients in S. Africa, or do you ship much internationally? Thank you for entertaining my curiousity. I'm a small time hobbyist, but wondering if exchange rate may work in my favor, even considering shipping costs, to afford a pretty baby or two. My pocketbook lags behind my eye, unfortunately......"champagne taste, beer money" and all that. Traditionally I get to drop some $$$ on koi in May every year for my birthday without too much hassling. It saves the spouse the stress of having to pick something out for me, which apparently is worthwhile to him, so I'm planning ahead........

Hi Mulberryjen

We export most of our koi to the UK & Europe. Only about 20% of our koi gets sold in SA. There might be a way to send koi to you; we have koi friends in the UK that might be willing to keep your koi in Quarantine for 7 days before sending them on to you. Don’t worry money is scarce every where in the world.
