Yes, and can we start with your kohaku in the picture Monscine? That is one nice kokaku, it has it all, great body shape, clear snow white, great pattern.

Thumbs up Good idea

Perhaps we should separate this into at least two threads or lists as there are currently only two variety of Koi with recognized bloodlines that I am aware of. Kohaku and Sanke. That is not to say that many breeders do not have their own Keitou within those bloodlines and for other varieties without recognized bloodlines. Once we get this set up perhaphs some of the masters that visit this site could help enlighten the rest of us.

Kohaku bloodlines,...

Hi Mike, is there an archive of older posts here? Maybe we can pull up what we did before and update it.

Happy Holidays to you and your family down in Florida! Do you think you'll have a white Christmas?

Best Wishes,
Brady

Thanks for appreciating my koi, Kong. Well, let’s get down to the line. I’ll try to describe the standard bloodlines and their characteristics which I know. Please correct me if I’m wrong and please add the others bloodlines you know so we could have better informations regarding the bloodlines. Let’s start with Kohaku as Mike wish.

KOHAKU
  • SENSUKE Line - It doesn't have SASHI. Hi is light red. KIWA (a boundary at the back) is from the viewpoint of straight line or called ‘Kamisori Kiwa’. Body is good. It becomes a jumbo jet.
  • MARUYAMA Line (Yamanashi) - KIWA (a boundary at the back) becomes round which call ‘Marukome Kiwa’. The brightness of Hi (red) is good. There is a thickness of the red pigment (Hi). Luster (TSUYA) appears(Hi). The sample of this bloodline? Please see my avatar
  • DAINICHI Kohaku Line (Niigata) - Becomes a jumbo jet. The brightness of Hi (red) is good. There is a thickness of the red pigment (Hi)
Cheers,
Handy

Hi Brady,

It will be really wonderful if you have the old thread consisting the koi bloodlines . It will help us a lot to predict the kois future.

Best regards,
Handy

There is a search function, but I cannot find the thread you meant, Brady. (Maybe it was on NI or before the software change here a couple of years ago??...how time flies.) When you've finished your Christmas shopping (and selling, I hope), come on back...or start a new thread.

Snow for Christmas? ... no way. However, we are having the coldest weather of the year. Frost in Ocala, 90 minutes north of me! We'll only be up to 68F tomorrow and only 72F over the weekend. I'm expecting pond water to be below 60F in the morning... maybe all the way down to 58F.
