Still a great buy at $3,600 bid. WOndering if anyone will try to sneak in a bid at the last minute - only one day to go.

Yep. There's always folks like that. Thing is, a person can wait until the last minute, but unless they bid the highest they'd ever be willing to bid, they cannot be sure to have time to get in another last second bid if someone else is just a few bucks higher. On a fish like this, chances are that several folks are waiting to bid at the last second. So, might as well bid the highest willing to spend now and not worry if the server goes down 15 minutes before the time runs. ...But everybody has their own strategy for these things. Makes it a bit more fun because they do.

Well, Dick, I have to say I'm interested in this Sanke ... kinda obvious, huh? But, I'm trying hard to stick to "the plan" for gradually getting my collection where I'd like it to be. Getting another Sanke was not on the list. LOL... of course, I did say my New Year's resolution did not take effect until January 1 !

If I exercise self-control on this, maybe I'll treat myself to an Ochiba or Chagoi.

But it really is a nice Sanke. I've been told by two people I trust who've seen her in person that she has the look of a Sanke that could truly become awesome.

....And, you know, Dick, I keep thinking about having a Showa that has a wide white body on which the Hi and Sumi appear like Japanese characters, written vertically on a banner.

Can't get over Showa.

do the math

As I type, the bid is at $3,600. If the whole amount can be deducted as a charitable contribution (per George) and the buyer is at a 50% tax bracket, the net cost of the fish would only be $1,800. At 33%, it would be $2,400. Where can you buy a fish of such obvious quality for so little money.

Watch out, I have my own bidding strategy, calculator by my side.
