(Not that they can all grow to 80+cm.)

DCNY: You are a jewel. Thanks for putting them together. How alike they are! The family resemblance is unmistakeable. There's a lot to learn about development from comparing the young auction Sanke with the GC and Stephen's Sanke. How I'd like to see the three together in the flesh.

The patterns seem remarkably similar however the hi seem very different. Would the same bloodline produce such different hues? I wonder how much of it is lighting and photo effect?

Lighting affects the tone of red. I'd not put much weight on that in a photo taken in different conditions. The photo of the auction koi was taken in an indoor pond with subdued natural light present. I'm thinking that by looking at how the pigment fills an area, the shape/structure of the heads and the body shape... in particular the relation of the shoulder, abdomen and spacing from dorsal to tail, you can see similarities that just maybe help predict the future. The dissimilarities leave me to wonder if the auction Sanke will grow into a similar shape/mass distribution. The degree of similarity between the GC and Stephen's Sanke is telling us that "eyes" that see alike were involved in their selection over time, I think.

I do wish someone with knowledge of Momotaro Sanke development would come along and do some teaching. These are wonderful animals.

This is a picture of the GC from the 2005 Dutch National Koishow. It's a 90cm gosai Sanke bred by Momotaro. It's called the Millenium Sanke, nickname Patience. Just a few hours ago I recieved a message that there is a rumour it has recently died, but it has not been confirmed.
