Taiwan Koi Show 2005...

Did any of our overseas Bito'ers go to this show?

Momotaro Sanke won Grand Champion at Taiwan Koi Show 2005!!
We are pleased to report that a 6 year old 87 cm Momotaro Sanke won the Grand Champion award of this yearfs Taiwan Koi Show held on December 9th and 10th. This koi was bought as a jumbo Tosai by Mr. Chen of Ming Hong Koi Center(Taiwan). As a 71 cm 4 year old, this koi was purchased by a hobbyist, Mr. Li-Ji Chen(Taiwan). This was Mr. Li-Ji Chenfs first entry in a koi show, and it was the only fish he brought to the show. We are glad to see our koi fulfilling their potential in our customersf care.

compare

I noticed that the winner is very similar to the Momotaro auction fish--check it out. If I had the ability, I would post them side-by-side for comparison.

I don't think there was any question that this breeder knew how to produce
high quality koi. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that they'll be able to come back from adversity and continue to produce across the world stage GC's like this one.

One thing for sure is that the koi kichi's from Taiwan are very excellent koi keepers and this koi is a tribute to that ability.

To check out another Momotaro Sanke not in a "touched-up show photo", look at Stephen Heidt's Sanke in the 35" Sanke thread on Koiphen. (I'd borrow the pic, but it is too large to post here & I'm not where I can re-size.) The similarities very much help in seeing how the Momotaro Sanke line develops. (Not that they can all grow to 80+cm.)

having them side by side like that really does help with the comparison!

Just curious to get others reaction, do you prefer just as a personal opinion black stripes on the pecs or white clean "hands" like geisha?

I think it all depends on what is going on with the koi. I think its kinda an accent to what is on the body... So it all depends for me..

I have come to prefer just a couple of lines of Sumi. I recall years ago reading that this was "best", but I thought otherwise. There was a young Sanke pictured in one of Axelrod's books with numerous bold bars of Sumi running through the pecs. I thought that was too wonderful to believe. Of course, I now understand that it was just that ... that the bars of Sumi are temporary and will likely retract with some growth. Now, I have come to prefer just a couple of stripes because I learned it was best, or is it because my sense of beauty has "matured"?
