Does the pond have a bottom drain to it? Does the pond have a skimmer to it? These could also be places that cause the leak. Is it also a line pond?

The nice thing is you are looking for it now that the temps are low. I would just turn off the system to see if the water level goes down. If it does let it drop to the point of the leak. If it doesn't go down the leak is in the waterfall.

I have a friend that has a bad leak in his pond. He has not done a thing to it. He tells me it's his way of doing water changes. LOL I have to say it's working. He get some of the best growth I have seen.

these type of panic no fun stiuations re enforce the need to have installed and running....a qt tank. Kinda like insurance, you hope you never have to use it, and you hate to keep paying but when you need it your glad it's there....so for those newbees who read and learn here's a chance to beat some problems in advance with a QT set up prior to needing it!

Totally agree with you Dick, have a 15 ton qt which is designed to always be ready.

(Bad luck was that this summer, the 3-d liner that was installed last december to the qt had a bad leak due to a production failure in the EPDM and I had to move the koi in the qt to my pond. Luckily, they had been in there from December as well, so no contamination problems)

Those longhorn would be drinking out of the QT as well...just wait till after january the fourth they'll migrate back east right fast.
BTW you may not know what a cattle hoof print look likes. I think i remember that ya got some deer in California...Well think really big deer track...so if ya don't see the longhorns but see really big "deer tracks" then the longhorns are coming in at night to drink....Longhorns act like wild animals if ya don't stay on top of em all the time.....
