If anyone's interested I just added a "Pond Page" to our web site.

Nice web site! I just have one question however - You say your bio filter(upper pond) is 7' X 7' X 11' across the front and 7FEET DEEP!? and holds 5 cubic feet of LAVA ROCK!? How deep is the lava rock bed and does it go all the way to the bottom?

I lied - here's another question - How do you plan on cleaning it?

PM me for a very interesting true story about lava rock filters if you're interested

Regards

Mike

Hi Mike. Yes the lava rock goes all the way to the bottom. My filter pit is 4 feet below pond level, so it's about 6 feet below the level of the bio falls. The bio falls is supplied by a 3 inch line which I can open to waste and back flush to the neighbors field. I get a pretty good "Whoosh" when I back flush it. I suppose some day it will clog and I will have to dig it all out. I am slowly learning and if I know then what I know now I wouldn't have used lava rock.
