Power outages and koi question

I am just curious as to how many of you experience regular power outages, how long they usually last, and what it is costing to run and heat your ponds in the US nowadays. I know here we have outages every few days that can last anywhere from a couple hours to 8 hours. What is it like where you live and how do you deal with it as far as your koi are concerned?

a few years back we were but a few homes on a deadend line. Power would be off for a week. had youngsters and one oldster and would call the power company everyday for a week. (we're talking an all electric home in below freezing home here) Came down to they admitted they worked on lines down or out with more homes than just a few so i was always last.

so ended up after a few seasons of total stress for health of people and pets
that i bought a honda generator.

since then they put up some condos directly across the street to the tune of 100 families...anything happens and we're back on in minutes....good thing, ran the generator to keep it in running condition and the next day was broken into and stolen....

Have had some bad storms & lost power a few yrs ago for 6 days. Now i have a generator & have used it a few times. Most times power is back within an hour. I have no idea what it costs me to run things. I guess ill have to do the math now lol

After the terrible ice storm of two years ago here, we were really tested with 4 inches of ice and over 10 inches of snow, lost power, had electrical fires from falling lines, lost many greenhouses that were crushed by the ice...had a few generators most didn't work...now we have more that do work and are better prepared. Thank God were are still here to write this.

I use a power coverter that allows me to plug my air pump 110v ac to a 12v dc (deep cycle car battery). So far this is my 'plan B' for power outages, I know several people who use gas powered generators. Hope this helps.

airpump ~ converter ~ car battery.

Can't even remember when I had the last power outage. Unfortunately some of my fellow dutch koi keepers were not so lucky when we had snow and ice last month. All 8 inches!!!! Some were out for up to two days because ice broke the power lines. Electrical company is getting it's butt sued!

But this was a very rare thing for us in Holland. Actually do not know of anyone that has a generator or any other measures in place in case of a power faillure.

Except for last year's hurricanes, I've not had power outages longer than a couple of minutes for over 10 years. ...I had a "BIG generator" on my Xmas wish list, but was told I'd have to get it myself and that no gasoline storage in the garage was going to be allowed. Sounds like a challenge.

Mike be sure and find a way to chain and lock it to any storage location. There's an additive I use to keep the gas from aging....
