JR, glad you are posting on KB again!

I've been told that the new type Showa from Toshio Sakai have great volume/body and large pectoral fins, and very good sumi quality to go with it.

Can you confirm this, and any guess when Showa from this new line will be available for the general public?

Hi Regenmeneer, thanks, I can only post on this one laptop unfortunately so I have to still figure out why I can't get through on either the office computer or my main desk top at home??

Yes, Sakai's showa have a kohaku like body but still that triangular shoulder look of a good showa- really an interesting blend of the black based fish's power and the refinement of kohaku/sanke color and skin. The sumi is even coming along in a maruzome style! very cool.
I actually have some pictures of a few on a crashed hard drive at a recovery lab. They are using the HD to test potentail purchases of new recovery equipment from Japan. I expect to have 98% of the data retrieved and in disc form sometime this coming month. When I get it, I'll post some pictures taken two years ago of the first sansai. I think I also have pictures of the new pink kohaku beni on that disc? Very very beautiful and like nothing you've ever seen.

Best, JR

JR, Regenmeneer

Thanks for keeping this thread alive. JR, that's great news. I, too, can't wait to see pics of this new color infusion into showas. I guess my avatar says alot about that fact!

As a student of Nishikigoi, I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Can't wait to see these new style Showa in the flesh. Also looking forward to seeing the Sanke with maruzome sumi!
