pond heating cost

i am interested in how much it costs to heat a koi pond. if you heat your pond during the winter, could you post the size of the pond, zone you are in, heating method, and the temperature you keep your pond.

i don't heat my pond, but i am looking into a de-icer. a 1500w electric de-icer is around $50.00, very reasonable i feel. but the cost of running it? how about figure 24 hours a day for two months? would that be about right for zone 5?

1.5 kwh x 24 hours = 36 kwh/day

36 kwh x 60 days = 2160 kwh

2160 kwh x .10/kwh = $216.00

the .10 kwh is a guess, it could vary a lot depending on region.

$216.00/year to keep a hole in the ice, keep in mind this will not even begin to heat a pond in a cold climate, all it does it keep a hole in the ice.

so i am interested in how much it would cost to keep a koi pond at 50F over the winter. lots of variables here, so let's say a 5000 gallon pond in zone 5, average winter.

Zone 7, 42" depth liner pond, 3200gallons, 300watt aquarium heater that runs 24/7. Pond has not droped below 50 yet, was at 65 this morning although we are have warmer than usual temps.

If your just wanting to keep a hole open try my DIY deicer that uses light bulbs. Or they make some commerical varieties now that have a 100watt heating element.

I am heating the air in my koihouse, not the water. The water is maintaining 60F (the same temp that the water in my basement pond is). When I get my bill in January I should how much its costing me.
