Today was a concrete kind of day. The concrete pump and concrete truck arrived around noon. The concrete being used for the pond and filter pit floors is 4000psi with fiber reinforcing. Below are shots of the filter pit pour.

After the filter pit pour, they moved on to the pond. First they surrounded the bottom drains and air pits then Carl moved to the outer ring. After pouring the pond wall footer, the rest of the floor was poured and smoothed out. The floor is bowled around each bottom drain. The slope down to each bottom drain is steaper than it appears in the photos.

Thanx again for the up-date and pics.

I must say it looks great. And I even saw some dirt on the jeans of one of them They are really not wasting any time are they!

One thing I noticed was that the valve boxes which will hold the 4"ball valves do not have a concrete foundation, but dirt. Aren't you afraid you'll have problems with rainwater or water coming from the ground?

Relax stan, Carl has done this once or twice.

I am glad to see someone finally got dirty. I was starting to think this was a Bob Villa show, where other people actually do the work.......

The guy holding the hose up had the fun job. Those things are friggin heavy when loaded with cement.

Does Carl have his own concrete pump?

The way my lot is built up there is no chance of water rising up. We did not get any at 8' down in the pond. The filter pit floor is only 4' down.

He hired the concrete pump. The guys working the concrete pump are masons that Carl might hire to do some of the concrete block work. Otherwise, you may just see some photos of me in the pond helping with the block work.

An attempt to show the slope down to the drains in photos. You can see the air pits are higher than the drains.

I spoke with Carl more about this. Even though it is more work, he prefers to drill and install that rebar after the slab is complete. With the size of this pond there will be about 100 pieces of rebar coming from the slab into the pond wall. He wants each piece of rebar centered in the block cell which you cannot do if you lay the rebar ahead of time. As the first course of block is laid, the holes will be drilled through the slab and the rebar installed. After the wall is complete, the pump truck will come back and they will pump concrete into each cell.
