Magnets

On another forum, Koivet I think, they are talking about the use of magnets and it seems like an easy solution. Why don't you take a look over there.

Long ago I came to the conclusion that magnets are great. As the algae spores pass beneath the magnet they tend to laugh themselves to death and are unable to colonize the pond!

Left KV years ago and vowed never to return. Anyway I can't stand all the pleas of "All the fins have rotted off the koi in my AS pond... will they grow back again?" To which the answer is NO cuz they will be long dead by then!

No I will pass on the magnets, thank you.
Thanks for the tip though!

Hi there Scott, you live so far away from the epicenter that you might not be able to imagine the business marriage between that fat doctor and AS.

Naive garden pond keepers get tons of rocks and boulders in the pond to make it looks just like in nature! Then about eight months later when the fish are dying, the doctor, err... the company moves in to sell fish drug, pond chemicals and antibiotics. Same company!! multiple services!! MA Le

Ma Le,
Thanks for the update.
Funny how the internet brings us from far and wide so close together isn't it. I know all about EJ and the AS ponds. I have lots of good friends close to the source. My reasons for leaving KV had nothing to do with that really though I do have an opinion. I do think Koi Vet serves a purpose in the koi world and it was a young Koi Vet board that made a great difference to my early days in the hobby. I had troubles at the start and the KV board was a great help. It's something that most us all go through unless we have the good fortune to meet some kind person with a real understanding (and not some self proclaimed expert or dealer) of what it takes to keep koi in health and happiness. I believe that EJ fills a vital niche and would hate to see him or his board disappear. For people just starting and having trouble KV is a god sent.

Myself, I have long passed that point now thanks to the patience and help of so many great people in the hobby over the course of many years. Now, while I am more than happy to return to to others what was once so generously given to me, I don't have the energy to compete with the hoards of "experts" all waiting to demonstrate their new found found knowledge and then invest hours of my time, trying to convince them that perhaps they may be holding the fork by the wrong end. I can do it once, or twice and maybe even three times. But there comes a point where one finds themselves repeating and defending the same old advice ad nauseum. This is often with those who have no intention of listening at all. I would rather go out of my way and personally help a single person with the enthusiasm to learn than waste it on idiots who already know they are right.
I enjoy the atmosphere here at Koi-Bito and find it a relief to be able to relate on a different level and from time to time assist the the odd newbie that come through our door.

Like capri pants and leisure suits, using magnets for algae control appears to be making a comeback . . . NOT.

Koicop
I saw some magnets at the wholesalers a while back... they claimed they stop scale forming in hot water appliances. Yeah right.

@ George... LOL
