midori koi

hello fellow koi nuts. i`have been keeping koi for about 6 years now and now getting some very high quility koi for my 1000 gallon indoor pond.i just bought a 10 inch midorigoi from a importer here in fla. i recived all the paper work with the fish. IT is 18 months old from the breeder toraza, i can see a lot of green under the skin over the lateral line on both sides and the doitsu scales along his dorsal. Any ideas on how to bring out the green would be great.i keep the ph indoors at 7.6 add 2 lbs of salt per 100 gallons, feed nothing but dainichi premium and hi-silk

Midori are extremely difficult to keep. They fall into the class of koi that like asagi, shusui, kikusui etc don't like hard water. Most nice ones as tosai often turn a very yellowish color with age. I have seen some Wagoi that i liked better lately.

what's with the salt?

Welcome to the board!

You mention you received paperwork with this fish and it lists the breeder as Toraza. I've never heard of this breeder before. Are you sure of the spelling? Please don't say it's TORAZO, because Torazo doesn't breed midorigoi.

Koijay, welcome to the board...I was looking for that breeder in my "Breeder Guide" the little blue book and didn't see that name in there...Mike is right it can't be Torazo....They breed GoSanke...

Perhaps, Tazawa - an excellent midorigoi breeder

koijay . . .

keeping your pond salted all the time is not recommended and it will have a negative effect on your koi long term. Salt should only be used in specific situations.
