Both Phyllis and PAm (especially pam) think size matters

Once again, SIZE is the biggest thing concerning what a GC should be...now this can be somewhat understood as this was a breeder dealer show (I think?).
But instead of the dog chasing its tail...why can't the powers that be STOP and THINK.

breeders breed koi that do have all the right stuff...but size. they can breed all aspects to perfection....a GC SHOULD have most of what can be accomplished that create a work of art and not a genetic giant freak that is very weak in one area....
No Judge should say, "Yeah it has a weak (fill in the blank) but it is SO BIG!"...
I got a friend in a trailer that buys art by how big the painting is. The artwork sucks, but it is BIG....those big paintings never win at Artshows.

So Stop already. Stop chasing the big fish. Breed for the whole package.
Sure yeah I am back on the soap box...but seriously this fish is another example of big fish elitism.
Some organization needs to go out in front of the breeder's band wagon and place a STOP sign at the 1 meter mark.
After one meter, judges should be required to publically recognize that they will not give more credit to a fish larger than one meter. This will get the breeders to work on the Artistic dimensions of the koi and not get them to bring over-sized Couch paintings when portrait paintings are what the contest should be about.
Is someone thinking...Is an organization addressing this?

Koi are not paintings Luke. Size can be part of their beauty.

Besides, you can have both. It is just a matter of money/taste as the leading edge of Jumbo fish is now well patterned, albeit sometimes a little boring. Sakai is usually criticized for having BORING three step or even two step patterns! Now here is a departure from that and the critics abound!! What is that saying about trying to please all the people all the time?
someone said it already- keep looking at this fish and its pattern will grow on you. That is about getting past preconceived notions of what a jumbo GC 'should' look like. You might have had this same reaction when you first saw the BKKS momotaro GC at the National? JR

JR,
that Sanke still hasn't grown on me...the fish was imposing...and in great health.
A few of the others were smaller and had more beauty. i'd even have taken the Goshiki home over the GC.

So a seven foot tall pam anderson would be more beautiful than the current size-limited individual?
Wait...are we talking about the size of her accoutrements(sp)?

But Luke she isn't a koi either.
The live creature swimming in the tank or pond and the way it looks goes a long way for me.

and while "patterned" they don't bring the best of anything but size to the GC trophy.

they are supposed to be works of ART...so a six foot mona lisa is better than the other one?
venus de milo Plus-sized is hotter?

in art there is no axiom, "Bigger is better."

I think in person the GC would be more impressive than in a photo, bot because of size and pigment. I've noticed that in the amateur photos the GC's Hi is as deep and bright a red as you ever see in koi...the kind of red you usually only see in the professional glamour shots.
