I would suggest 80 watts. Aqua UV makes one of the best. There is also a company here in San Jose that makes one very much like it except for the transformer. It's much more compact and doesn't require mounting a stupid box with the transformer in it somewhere close to the unit itself. Really works great. All parts are interchangeable with Aqua UV, e.g. quartz sleeve(which by the way is thicker) and the UV lamps. PM me if you're interested and I'll give you the website.

By the way, welcome to Koi Bito, the best koi website on the planet!

How is your water now? How much sun does your pond get?

My water is deep green, filled with algae particles....This time of year in Michigan, my pond receives 10 hours of light, but its only 4 hours of direct sunlight. Only half the pond receives the directs sunlight although. My fish are healthy, and suprisingly have been very hungry this past winter....La Nina has made the winter optimal for my Michigan koi..But since my filters are not running I am afraid the excess fish waste has caused an increase in algae growth...This spring, (and I think it may be an early spring) I would like to eliminate green water early. My new pond has been runnung since early August. I was never able to clear the water before the winter air moved in......So I know this forum must have some insight in what they believe is a effective U.V........My budget is $500, perhaps someone is selling a U.V. light which I may be interested in.....Thanks for your time......

There is a really cheap and good UV out on the market by GAMMA UV. Just do a web search. They are about 20-30% cheaper than Aqua UV.
