What kind of Koi and what breeder is you favorite?
What type of koi is your favorite? And which breeder would you choose for that favorite koi and why? My favorite is Kohaku and the breeder would be SFF. I've always been a kohaku guy, and so far, the best I've seen have come from Hiroshima Sakai.
Kohaku, there are so many good breeders, Momotaro, Dainichi, Sakai, Genjiro, Kansuke, Maurice and so many others. I like the blood red clear multistep pattern and jumbo genetics of course.

That's true that there are many good kohaku breeders. I think the blood red ones are more like Maruyama. I gues the second best for me would be Hoshikin, in Niigata for kohaku.
What really surprises me is that no one ever mentions the name Torazo! This guys main focus now is on kohaku. Yet when I was at the AJKS I asked Tsuyoshi if he had any fish in the show. He said, "only customer fish". All the fish he showed me were Sanke and Showa. Then he said that none of them were his owh bloodline - Interesting!?! Now, however, that he is concentrating most all of his efforts on Kohaku, I think his stock will rise in the next couple of years. He has some truly amazing jumbo males that he is using for breeding - all over 30"!! I did not get to see his oyagoi this last trip, but I want to make a point of it this next fall if possible.
My favorite koi ever was the grand champion showa from dainichi..the one on the food advertisement...I even love the one in this months koi-bito magazine. I love shiro utsuri from Sekko and omosako. Ginrin kohaku from terodomari (I want one!!). Doitsu showa from shinoda. Asagi from hosokai. Goromo from yamazaki. Goshiki from hiroi. Tancho from torazo.
Everything from sakai(H)!!!
I like the blood red beni too (=kagura beni, lipstick beni). However, I thought it was out-of-favor because of its tendency to do the disappearing hi trick.
this spring when momotaro's outside ponds are cleared of any suspicion, you'll see this breeder bounce back in a big way and their name will be mentioned again with the top favorites like Sakai of Isawa, Hiroshima and Niigata.
I quess i'm stuck on Toshio sakai as my favorite japanese breeder. He has contributed so much to the hobby and genetics and done it the hard way
as second son. ( yes he breeds asagi!)
