Looks like a doitsu metallic goromo to me. (By some called Heisei Nishiki, but this name is also used to refer to doitsu Yamato Nishiki)

Gaetano, you are absolutely right. Yamato Nishiki is a metallic sanke. But the name Heisei Nishiki is used when referring to the doitsu version of a Yamato Nishiki as well as when referring to a doitsu metallic goromo.

I've tried to figure out which one it is, but even judges at shows come up with contradicting answers Maybe JR or Ray Jordan can help us?

the koi is douitsu sumi koromo. Wouldn't have a clue as to who breeds them.

This color variety used to be my wife's favorite but they are so transitory and so easily to overrun with black that I'd rather stick to something that's a little more stable. They are beautiful tho!

From a judges perspective?

The actual variety name doesn't matter. Its judged as Hikari Moyo. I am not sure what a Metalic Goromo is called...but Doitsu Kujaku is a possibility as well. In some of these "off varieties" there are more than one way to breed to a given type/impression and sometimes "actual" classification of variety is only truly apparent when the parent Koi are actually known.
