Newbie First Post

Hello all

I would like to introduce myself and hope that I am welcomed with open arms

My name is Craig, I am 25 married and my wife is expecting our second child.

I Live in Kent (The Garden of England) In the UK

I finally persuaded my wife to let me build a pond last year so I went at it with all guns blazing, and dug and built the beast in less than 3 months virtually single handed

I have 5 koi all under 12", 2 King carp about 24", 4 small Ghost carp, 2 golden tench and 2 grass carp.

I am hoping to add some lights, a vegetable filter with waterfall return and bamboo screening to the side and top of pergola

Well that is me and my first post of hopefully many

Thanks for having me

Welcome Craig! You will find many people here willing to help you. It looks to me that you have constructed a great looking pond. Dont be afraid to ask questions believe me I have asked a bunch here & learned a ton.

Thumbs up Welcome to the board 999!

Ditto to Dihn and JNorth's welcome.

Like the layout of your pond... I have one question re: you pond cover... What type of wood did you use??? From the color, it looks like it may be what we call pressure treated wood here in the US... If it is, you may have a problem... Pressure treated wood leaches toxic chemicals which could have an adverse effect on your koi when it rains, if it is not sealed... Hopefully this is not the case in your construction...

Aloha! Mike

Really nice pond Sharpey, welcome on board.
The pond looks really proffessional and peacefull, what a pleasure to sit and have a rest around your pond.
What kind of filtration did you install ?

~Thanks for all your comments, My wife and I are very proud of the pond and are looking forward to adding some more stock once the filter has matured and I solve the issue of my high nitrate and blanket weed problems

I will try to answer some of your questions and hopefully get some quality feedback

Dimenisons of the pond are 15ft x 9ft x 5.5ft deep

The pergola is pressure treated but have looked into the TANALISED(C) and pressure treatment stages and have been assured from the distributor that the wood is sealed and very safe for use in and around ponds once the treatment dries. I left the wood for a further 4 weeks in the summer before constructing just in case.

My first question for you

1) Does anyone here have any advice for making my own vegetable filter that I can place on the top of the pond and cascade back?

Thanks
