Well, some think the tail will become completely black....The contrast of Kage sumi will soften the appearence and not all Kage sumi thickens up.

As I said in my post I like it overall. Yes I would put in my pond. I think it is a future fish because it still has some sumi coming up. As for tategoi.....I will leave that determination to a breeder as I wouldn't know one if it hit me in the face.

It's an interesting fish and may be very nice in time. For now, it doesn't do it for me. I don't have a good reason why it doesn't. I can find a lot more things about the fish that are good, like the conformation and thick tail tube, than bad but I'm still not that into it.

Hmmmm...

Well...I looked at the picture, read the responses, then came back to the picture to re-evaluate to see if I had something to say that hadn't been said yet. And I do!! What struck me when I first looked and last looked at the picture was the same thing: great body - don't like the kohaku pattern or the head, itself. I like Erwinsan's philosophy, looking at the beauty of the whole fish and realizing that in nature, there is perfection in imperfection. (OKAY, that was a cheesy way for me to put it, but I think it is easy to be overly critical.) This one is not for me, but it is a nice fish.

Body looks good & in general an atrractive fish. In looking & trying to futurize it i see the x shape in the middle, a near x shape to the rear 3rd & the upcoming pattern on the head may also be x shaped. I prefer that both pecs have near equal color balance but thats just me. All in all a nice fish. I'd take it.

Thats a good looking showa. From what I can see in the pic the sumi coming in on the head will be a nice pattern. I dont think that the sumi will over power the head or tail on this koi. What I do see in the head is a good deep hi and when the lines come in on her the hi spot behind the sholder will look real good. The kohaku pattern looks good and I think this koi will do good in the future. Im still learning about showa and if this is your koi post another pic in about six more months. I would like to see if I perdict this koi right.

Love your new avatar Tony. Its going to be rather striking if the sumi comes up like that.
