Tony

The front half looks good now. I'm concerned about the back half, in particular the tail joint area. IMHO, I think the sumi is going to fill in and the nice patch of hi is going to disappear, making the front half look too heavy and unbalanced.

Overall I like it but with that said in the picture it looks like the hi on the head is going to get covered in sumi. I kind of think though that may just be the picture.

I really like the X forming on the back. I don't have any prior experience with Yagenji, but hope the the sumi tightens up, then I think you'll have a nice looking showa. From what else I can see, I think that it has enough shiroji towards the front once the koi gets bigger, that it should showcase it quite nicely. Again, in my humble opinion, I think it has a pretty good future.

three colored fish

Antonio-

Three colored face? Now yep, later maybe.
Three colored tail? Yep. Joint? Nope.
Three colored in the middle of the back? Nope?
I've heard Mr. Kodama say that the area in front of the dorsal and at and behind the line across the back from pec to pec is the "center" of the koi and for showa, and of course certainly sanke, this should be a balanced area of three colors, too. I don't see this happening except for kinda maybe and kinda a long time from now. What do you see?

I feel a little like I'm speakin some pig latin I heard somewhere. Never been to Japan. No show fish. Just hours and hours looking, listening and reading.

I've also heard Ms. Shila say "They've got to have a face I like" and I'm with her on that. These are not race horses nor fluffy poodles with bows. These are fish we love to look in the eye as well as swimming. When you ask about this fish it is because you are thinking about taking it home, right?

And, yeh man, all my fish fall short somewhere, I ain't raggin ya. I might as well sign my posts Mr. Cheap.

Conformation - seems to be good
Hi - appears good and dense in photo, wish head Hi pattern was
less "regular" appearing ( maybe more shiro coming up )
Sumi - looks like it will be thickly black; I like it.
Shiro - appears nice and white on body, but on head and pectoral
fins it has a yellow cast. I think that could improve with age
and become whiter. Hopefully with growth, shiro will come up
more on the head.
pectoral fins - looks like will have great balanced motoguru in good proportion
hopefully they will become whiter.
pattern - I'm of the apparentely minority opinion that a perfectly
"balanced" pattern is overrated. I like to see a pattern that
has a certain uniqueness and character to it. To me, too
many so-called balanced patterns have a sameness that just
says "been there, seen that". So if it isn't balanced, that
doesn't bother me - I guess a judge will have a different view.

Maybe

From what I can see the fish has pretty god conformation. As for the skin quality I can't tell from the pic. The Beni looks even and consistent and the Sumi looks like it may finish jet black. What don't like is the unbalanced motogoro and ubbalanced pattern. It looks like like you have the front of one fish and the back of another. But depending on how and where the sumi finishes this could change dramaticly.

Another question...

How about appreciating the koi as a whole instead of disecting it? I know one way to appreciate a koi is to divide into sections, however no koi is perfect therefore I would think we should also look at the overall 'picture'. Just my modest input.

Would you keep this in your pond? Also, would you deem this a future fish or how some may put it..."tategoi"?
