I love Maruyama kohaku's. I hav ebeen fortunate to have Futo Maruyama visit us at our home and also have visited him on every trip to Japan. He stresses selection of conformation 1st but then really stresses to select best hi. You want soft but shiny hi that is thick and consistant. He stresses focusing on hi sheen and quality. When you have a tub of his kohaku's it is easy to get caught up in pattern and hi color. Take a step back andone or two will seem to glow from an inner light. Give those special glowing koi a good 2nd look.

Good point Ray!

Everytime I see maruyama Kohaku, they look distinctly different than kohaku from other breeders. Not just the erratic, bold pattern, but the very special beni as well. Very lustrous!

I like #4 because of the head shape and nice shiroji on the head. Don't particularly like the pointy head on #5, and don't fancy the Tsuke Tsuki pattern.

Wish I would run into some of his Kohaku overhere, I'd love to own one (or more).
