Is this Blue Heron season?

Is this Blue Heron season? Haven't seen any blue heron in my area for the last two years. Looking thru the window this morning and saw a big giant blue heron landing on the side of my pond. Man, it's scaring.....

Heron season?

Could be, I had one here yesterday.
But we get them fairly often, maybe averages one or two a month. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
We do live just a few miles away from a reservoir, so maybe they stop be here on their way there. That's why our pond is permanently netted(it's too shallow).

Nets are the only thing that works for us, well that and a good dog!

Fish tend to stay in deeper water when the water is cold, so herons have a harder time finding their natural prey. When we lived on the east coast US, they tended to be the most hungry and bold in late winter.

I've found the toughest time here in the Pacific Northwest is fall time when the fledglings are on their own and having to feed themselves. They're prtty stupid ( aggressive ) and can cause problems. Right now the pair should be setting on eggs soon and that does slow them down abit, but like a kid to a candy store, once they find your pond they'll be "bock"......
