Regarding Koi foods.....

JR recently started a thread on the NI board re: Koi foods.
Since the subject was brought up....I remembered an ad in Koi USA magazine that mentioned "Miracle Koi Food". Has anyone tried this diet"? If so, any comments/opinions? It appears to be packaged in vacuum bags.

Miracle Koi Food

I use the Miracle food for my babies, and one of them just won a Baby Champion award. Was that the cause? Don't know.

Carolyn,

Pardon my curiousity but, why do you not feed your larger fish the Miracle diet?

Dinh,

What exactly did you mean by the above statement? All I am asking is if anyone is using a brand of food that just happens to have the word "miracle" in it. i am not inferring that it produces miracles. Its just a "name".
I just want to know if anyone has any experience with it......is all.

Hi Bob.

No personal nor any bad intention... Just wonder the about "miracle" -- that was all...Something off the subject.

Bob, what are you feeding your koi now? You'll hear alot of people say koi food is food. You got your cheap brands and you got your expensive brands. To me I stick to what works best for my koi and that is Ogata Wheatgrem year round and Hi-Silk in the summer. I just started using Sweet Potato Pellets and the fish like it. 29% protein isn't too bad....

That Miracle koi food stresses fish need high protein food to maintain color....To me that statement is BS....You can get away with feeding color enhancer food for 1 month straight at high temps...Then completely get off it and continuing feeding growth food during summer....

I remember back away when it first came out and I "tried it". It was during the era of interest in various bug larve filled with coloring agents and used for bird and fish feed.

It was relatively expensive but since about half of it sank some of my more reluctant feeders got something. As i remember it needed to be used in rather high temp water ( at the time I wasn't heating ) So I could only use it for a month of so in August. The fish liked it as i recalled.

I've never used it since. My sense is it might be good for variety and a treat.

As of late I have been mostyly impressed with growth Saki from Hikari. I'm from the olde school that doesn't believe in miracles but hard work and attention to detail thru study....which excludes color food. I figure if i buy quality bred koi with the proper genetics all i have to do is feed the proper % of protein to match the temperature and keep it fresh and frequent....

Currently my babies are getting Manda Fu a few times a week, until the temps in my winter holding tank come up.
