Thank You to Dinh and other Project KHV Supporters

I was appalled to read Dinh’s post on another thread about receiving harassing messages that question his actions and sincerity regarding Project KHV. Shame on all who have tried to discourage Dinh and other Project KHV supporters. I realize that some who read this are hardened in their perceptions. I am a member of an AKCA and also a ZNA club. I know narrow-minded individuals who believe their adopted organization is the only true way and any other is bad. I am hoping that most of the members of this forum will be more perceptive and open-minded.

Some koi organizations and club members are just way too competitive and attack each other when given a chance. When you throw in some individual hobbyists or some dealers to stir the pot and jockey for leverage you get the worse kind of political in-fighting that deflects and can eventually turn off the best programs and intentions.

AKCA created Project KHV to facilitate in the battle against KHV. AKCA is paying all expenses involved with Project KHV. 100% of every donation goes to fight KHV. AKCA has donated $50K of the $123K raised so far. All involved with Project KHV are volunteers. It is hoped that koi keepers, dealers, and breeders will see the benefits of pooling our resources to fight this significant threat to koi. If for whatever reason you do not want to support or donate to Project KHV please do not discourage others that do. I have never meet Dinh but it is easy for me to tell by his actions that he is a true koi kichi. He understands that koi are innocent in all this.

If for some reason you feel the need to attack another person, club, or organization please stop and think before you throw stones at Project KHV or it’s supporters. Remember the koi are innocents in all this and they deserve a chance to be protected from harm.

Thank you to Dinh and the supportive dealers donating koi to be auctioned at the All Bay Area Show April 1-2. For those attending please thank these folks when you see them and support them anyway you can. For more information about Project KHV go to our website at: http://www.akcaprojectkhv.org/index.htm

As pointed out in another post no one has replied to this so I will do so now. Dinh thanks for taking the time to help out with the KHV cure efforts. I'm not sure where this bashing has taken place but I believe anyone that has problems with the AKCA KHV project should take it up with Ray and/or the AKCA and NOT the people volunteering their time and money to help.

I worked with Dinh to help him try and get the KHV flyers out at the ZNA SoCal show and considered it a privilege to assist. He is to be commended for his selfless spirit and hard work on behalf of a worthy project.

Any disrespect directed towards him in this regards is directed at all of us and the hobby in general -- and should not be tolerated.

Dinh:

Don't know what happened, and really don't care to get into it. But, when your commitments permit, come on back helping the hobby. At some point folks will understand that you are trying to help them.

BTW, all those flyers you got me spread around the Orlando show? Well, some dollars came in. And this weekend a fellow is taking a stack of them to a pet expo to hand-out. He'd never have thought to do it except for getting one at the show. You've made a difference in ways you'll never know. It's what happens when people give of themselves.

Just my 2 cents!

I think anyone putting in any effort in promoting our hobby (be it judging, holding some office, etc), or supporting any cause (such as the KHV research fundraising), that will raise the satisfaction we all get out of this beautifull hobby, should be commended.

We all love this great hobby for the same reason, our koi, and politics between different organisations or groups should not be part of it! We should all look at the bigger cause, not let petty arguments ruin the satisfaction we get out of this hobby. And that is exactly what is happening IMHO.

Maybe we should refer to the program just as KHV research program, and forget the AKCA, as this program is for the benefit of us all!

DIHN, Ray, JR, Grant and others, thank you for your efforts!

Regenmeneer - thanks, well stated. Hate to see so much passion and energy focused on a tornado in a teacup. The need to fund further KHV research is certainly at the top of the list of important issues in our hobby. It is a worthwhile cause and the politics of any entities sponsoring fundraising efforts is of a secondary nature, at best. It saddens me to read some of the vitriolic posts that have burned through the ether in the past few weeks. Nothing good ever seems to come of it, only hurt feelings and egos leading to senseless lines of division.

Winston Churchill: "When the eagles are silent, the parrots begin to jabber."
....and apparently so do mockingbirds, cuckoos, and old buzzards.

Seriously though, how anyone could direct a nasty word in Dinh's direction in beyond me. I had really been looking forward to meeting him at the All-Bay, he has always been such a positive presence in the hobby. Hopefully, this nonsense shall pass.......the sooner the better.
