My favorites are......

Koi Kichi and Koi2Kichi.

BUT, as it realtes to the specific question regarding describing quality, its hard to beat Kokugyo 1 and 2. That specific subject is a very tough one to handle in print alone. Even with the DVDs, pictures have a tough time in capturing that specific subject, after all, you cannot adequately judge a Koi from a picture, only the picture of a Koi from the picture. Given those limitations, Kokugyo 1 and 2 do an exceptional job.

I think Tony is in the "Roots" mode. Remembering when the hobby of koi WAS all about the koi and nothing else.

Tony

Didn't know you knew Douglas!?! Now there's a name from the past that could teach EVERYONE a thing or three!!

Talking I have Mine!!

My Tetra book is still in the nightstand next to my bed.
I think a lot of newbies find that book , and it serves a good purpose to start.

1 of our first books, was "KOI" by. Grant Fugita and "Modern Nishikigoi" by. Takeo Kuroki. These 2 books helped us to get a better understanding of the koi hobby. Both are excellent reading material.

Douglas fish farm was the first "koi" dealer I went too. It was as close to Japan as I could get. Plus the guy was a breeder too. Those were the good ol'days!!!

I just borrowed Kokugyo DVD version and so far I think kokugyo emphasises on pattern .
What book explain about selecting koi specially from body point of view..
