Bio Tower

Just thought I would share with you, are new biotower. We just installed it, it is filled with Lava rock

I made a "bio Tower" and installed it. It did NOTHING, granted it was a little early in the year but still.
It seems that the bio material that is suspended in water gets a lot more gunk and cleans the water much better than the same material will with water pouring through it.
I tried it using mat, bio balls and Kaldis. (Caldis??)
There was no noticable effect. With the same amount of filtration in the pond the water is clear as can be, tests perfectly and the media is filled with green stuff.
I need convincing that a pourus media shower actually works.

where did you get the blue containers..and what are they made of?? Might want to try that myself eventually.

A properly designed filter should work well with any of the media you describe if the flowrates and media surface area are correct. You mention it was early in the year when you installed it. Cold water won't populate with biobacters so that may have been the problem. Shower systems tend to cool the water somewhat due to evaporative heat loss which is great in the summer, but not during winter months. Another advantage L.R. and Bakki media have is the fact that they are less likely to clog and become anaerobic than Jmat would in such an application. Bioballs or Kaldness should populate without clogging once warmer weather permits it.

No it it not custom made, it comes in 2 sizes 1 1/2 meter and 2 meter long. It is made out of the same plastic that they use on the Japanese koi bowls.

Are they rigid enough to not expand over time?

I made an error when saying they are made of plastic, they are made of fiberglass. I think they will withstand time. And they don't rust
