Dude Trout Season is on hit the end of this Month. But I suspect the river to be a bit washed out.. But the season will last longer as the snow melts and the temps stay very low. Wading could be dangerous. I guess I will venture out when trout season opens last week in April after I get back from Japan..

I live a stone's throw (well okay, ya gotta have a good arm) away from the Upper Sacramento. Not just lunker trout, but salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, carp, catfish and bass, to name a few. Great fly fishing on the island just a tad downstream....it is gorgeous.

Why go to the lake when the river is in your back yard?

Summer, man.

That river is COLD in the summer, an almost continual 57 degrees; the lakes (Whiskeytown and Shasta) are perfect to get in when the weather goes unimaginably hot. Not cold, but not bathwater either. I turn blue in 5 minutes swimming in the river even when it's 118 degree weather....
