I would love to see every koi club host a local koi show. Also groups of clubs host regional shows, Florida, California, Texas, etc. Also some type of National show. More shows = more/better educated koi hobbyists.

I think there is a saturation point, as it is, there are more than a few events that coincide with the same date, of course there are otherdates that are wide open... but some of these open dates coincide with other club related, non-show functions such as meetings, seminars and pond tours... and then there are the vendor events also. I don't think the show schedule is ivercrowded yet, but at some point you have the vendors who support the shows having to choose which shows they are going to be represented at and this does hurt the show.

I think you guys still have some room to manoever.

In the mid nineties we were running 40+ koi shows a year crammed into our
short summer and remember the UK could get lost in California. Nowadays we are just about maintining 20.

With most of the clubs (95% or more) all belonging to the same society clashes were kept to a minimum especially where clubs were in close vicinity to one another. But as a visitor I could occasionally find myself spoilt for choice on a weekend and visiting 2 different shows over a weekend not unusual. I remember one of my club mates visiting 2 shows in one day once.

But as good as that might sound 40 was too many, but 20 is not enough. If we have room for more so must you.

Roll on 6/7th May, the first koi show of 2006 in the UK.
