Friendship Fish

About 7 years ago I bought a Hi Utsuri at an All-Florida show held at the now defunct Splendid China attraction. She would not grow. About 5 years ago I gave her to a friend. Today I went to the Orlando Koi Club meeting at the home of some new members. In their shady pond was a 15" Hi Utsuri, a bit speckly now, but I recognized her... taking center stage like always. My friend had given her to our new members some months ago to brighten their pond.

When I give away a fish, I try never to ask about them. But, I'm always pleased to hear good things about how they are doing... and sometimes I wonder, but don't ask. Seeing the Hi Utsuri, I'm thinking there may be more than I ever thought still swimming contentedly, in some pond somewhere. Friendship through scales in more ways than we know.

I gave a few fish to Akinosan when he built his big pond. The fish weren't show quality but something he could appreicate since they were big. The one fish I am proud to see is the Sanke that Akinosan named "Big Tony"....it was around 24" when I gave it to him and is now around 28"...

Friendship fish

It was a freindship koi that got me started in this hobby when I was an early teenager. If a friend of my father had not given us a couple for our aquarium, I might never have discovered koi. I am pleased to hear that koi continue to be given away in friendship.
