Both Shiros are equal in finish. The shiroji is a bit pink which tells me these Shiros are still young. The heads are a tint yellow, but I think they will get better later. Which fish will have a better pattern is up to the individual, I like the first shiro. Keep us up to date with these fish as the growing season goes on.

I also prefer the first; for pattern which is the wrong reason. The second is left-right imbalanced.

Talking Second Shiro

Don't let the second Shiro fool you. There is Sumi on the right side that has not come in yet. If you look closeley you can see it. This is a very young Koi and it is too soon to judge the pattern. Look for the quality the fish has, the pattern will be there in two or three more years.

I like the 1st Shiro. 2nd shiro will have to much sumi for my taste. We own 7 Ogata Shiro's all of them have great sumi and shiroji. Only problem I have seen with Ogata shiro is they tend to get a few speaks of beni. We have a 25" one that has 2 speaks right at the tail, the sumi has almost covered it. Enjoy your Shiro's I think you will be surprised by the depth and laquer sumi they will get.

Here is a picture of ours, I wish I could find a better one.. Maybe Joe will post the one he took of her for me.

I also like #2 - More sumi coming on left side later. Also, if the hachi-ware fills in on the left side of the face, it will balance with the sumi on the right side of the odome or tail area. I also like the white better on #2. Head is cleaner as well.

Hi Nancy,
That a nice shiro you have there except for the little spots of beni. How old is that Shiro?I notice that the 1st Ogata shiro that I posted have laquer sumi on the head like you mentioned, and very good shiroji. Will take good care of them and see what they will turn out in the future.Heres another picture of the 1st shiro taken in Ogata about 10days ago.
