Unhappy New wave of antibio

Hi all of you, I had a problem with my shiro matsuba who enter in the skimmer and lose a lot of his scale. The day after the injury begin to be infected, I put a local treatment but the next day he was even worst and stop to eat.

So because I spoke about a new generation of antibiotic on a previous tread, I tested the Draxxin (Pfizer Laboratory) that I use it on big animals for now more then one year with a lot of satisfaction.
The day after the injection, the injury was clean it seems that the infection had deseapered, I did'nt notice any troubles, and now after a week all seems to be perfect. A couple of hours after injection, he begun to eat again....

Draxxin is easy to inject with a fine needle (solvent is water).
Draxxin need only one injection because is still active after 5 days.
It can be injected intra-muscular with no trouble of muscular necrosis.
It is activ on gram + and -, and mycoplasm too.
The only problem is that Pfizer never tested Draxxin on fish, I didn't know the dose to use... so I made like most antibiotic used for koi, I overdose it and instead of using 1 ml/40 kg, I injected 0.3 ml I.M for a 45 cm koļ.That was really empiric but it works.

So if you want to try it, you must accept that there is no experience on that antibiotic and that you'll do it to your own risk.

You can have more informations on www.draxxin.com

Marco
PS sorry to be a little away from the forum at the moment, but works, works, works ..

Marco,

glad to hear your koi is getting better.

I'm just wondering if Draxxin is a broad spectrum AB, because the information given on the Pfizer site only mentions BRD? If it's a specific AB, would you please explain to me why you chose Draxxin?

Rgds

I do a great deal of infectious disease work professionally. Whenever an antibiotic says Gr+, Gr- and other things...be a little wary..they always end up with unforseen side effects. We had this a few years ago with a human drug called Trovan. This goes for people as well as animals. If its so strong that it kills everything...it will have side effects. A more specific antibiotic is always better than a broad spectrum(if you know the bug). Since we mostly know the bugs involved (pseudomonas and aeromonas) go for something that hits more specifically like a fluroquinolone, You'll be better off in the long run.

Glad it worked for your fish though!!

So I used Draxxin because a couple of time I made Draxxin for respiratory desease on calves and I noticed that if they had other injury, they heal really fast. I think that Draxxin has a respiratory AMM, but has also some other good effect on cicatrization.

I didn't want to use Nuflor because of trhe muscular problems and the sickness of the product. Draxxin can be injected very easy and fast, so less stress for the koļ.

I could have use A180 (fluorokinolone long action, 5 days !) wich is good for skin problems, but also toxic for the kidney and as I did not know the dosage for Koļ ...

Draxxin is given for calves 1 ml/40 Kg, knowing that you can go 10 times the dose without any problems and that my koi was around 1.5 Kg, I went for 0.3 ml becaus we normaly inject higher dose on Koļ (Nuflor is also used on koi about 10 time more that what we use on others animals) .
But that's like gambling on pocker.
