Koi fish disease.. ?

Hey guys, new to the forum was just wondering if you guys can give me some help.. its for my uncle. Its been a year since he got his cute koi fishes from japan originally from there. He spent alot on each fish at least 2k and up. We have a custom pool in the front with glass u can walk on ill take pics and show u guys tomorrow morning. Recently a few months ago the koi fishes have been having problems like a disease one after another. Last time when i was helping him they have scratches we were assuming they play and swim around and scratch there bodies on the cement, possible injuring there scales. Later on it seems to get worse. The disease seems to eat inside there body and come out. We had 7 total.. 3 just past away in the past 3 months 1 died yesterday and my uncle was crying. He loves his fish alot and i mean alot he treats them as his own kid. The disease on some of the fishes seems to eat there parts away as well one of them was missing a fin u see its bone. Its so sad, i never really cared until now its sad when you see them. There really smart and when u see them play around its just fun to watch them, they have feelings.. When the fishes died its spreaded all over there body like red bloody bruises all over Ill take pictures of one to show you guys. Its not a pleasent thing to see and there dieing one by 1 and the one that just died yesterday his best friend isnt active anymore, just moving around like hes stressing and depressed its sad hes just laying where his friend died. But ya anyone have an idea about this disease?

I'm really sorry to hear about your koi dieing. Where are you located? If you are in the USA you should get in contact with your local koi club (check http://www.akca.org for a local club) and see if they can have a Koi Health Advisor come over and scope your koi. They may have a parasite of some sorts and should be treated asap. If you don't have a KHA nearby then get a microscope that does at least 400x. You also need a water test kit. http://www.koivet.com as a wealth of information on various koi diseases.

welcome to the gang, Mr Silent. Even do not see the fish, i can 100% tell you that the fish has ulcer. rapidely order Tricide Neo form most pet shop online. In the meanwhile, rush to wallgreen nearby, buy Iodine 7% and denture seal powder. use Qtip to spead iodine over the wound then when it still wet, pray powder over it, then press down. Check back in 3,4 days. by that time if it do not have any improvement. you can start using Tride-Neo. iodine can only kill on contact. if ulcer get under the flesh,Tride-neo can penetrate and do the work.
Those fish that lay down fin folded, they are attacked by parasite. either you can scope and find what type of parasite or you can do a shotgun remedy: anti Fluke and Proform-c. all on line pet shop carry those.
I am sorry that your uncle have to go thru all this, as i did in the past. Looking back, if i have to do all over again, i will not get into import Koi, or educated myself as much as I can before buying expensive fish. A scope will be my first order ! Keep intouch.

Thank you for all your replies haha this is a great forum wow =]. I also have some pictures of one of them that died. Its so sad how this can happen, back then fishes to me didnt really matter but now its just like if we raise them we should be able to take care just like a kid. You dont have them there just to die. But about the iodine thing, i saw my uncle do that we used a Qtip and we rubbed the fishes wounds, and he also gave them shots, and a salt bath they still died.. but heres the pictures of what it looks liek

please check it out thanks! <3

Question Terrible ulcers

A question for you. Did the scales stand out and bulge before the ulcers appeared? If so it could be dropsy/popeye, which is an internal infection that progresses outward.

with that large a wound, the fish is gone. Here is a website that your uncle need to study, if he still want to be in the hobby: fishdoc.co.uk/index.htm. Enjoy the dark side of Nishikigoi.

Hi Silent,

Deffinetly see if you can get a KHA and get a scrap and scope done. If the fish have been flashing (excessive scratching and itching) then they have parasites. The ulcers and septicemia are generally secondary infections caused from parasites that leave openings for bacteria/bad aeromona's to invade.

Whats the water parameters? (Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate,ph kh & gh...)

Pond size and how many fish total?

Pond temp?

What injections did he use?
