breeding spots
my doitsu yamabuki ogon is getting rather large. it seems to have red spots appearing and it has never had them before? breeding spots? it is about 12inches? any ideas? i have a picture but i can shrink it to fit on here so if anyone has msn i can send it to you.

no such thing as visual "breeding spots" on koi.

You would appear to have a speckledegoi going through a color change as it ages.

Male koi get rough patches (tubercules) on the gill plate during breeding season. They are normally felt, rather than seen.

Many yamabuki, especially those with intense color when young, develop stray red and orange spots as they mature. Looking at the re-sized photos. I suspect that is what is happening to your koi.
