Champ Koi Show - Pictures

Size 3 had the least number of fish, only 8, but it was my favorite size category. Maybe it was because the fish were larger so there was more to evaluate on each fish or maybe it was because there weren't so many lined up next to each other and it was easier for me to keep the fish straight in my head.

The top koi for each size class was then gathered together to determine the show's Grand Champion. And, just as with each of the size classes before, Grant, Chai and Antonio broke the finer points of each fish down. The quality of the beni, the kiwa, the pattern on the smaller fish, the conformation on the larger fish, etc. and a grand champion was chosen...

The Grand Champion was awarded to a very nice sandan kohaku owned by Dinh. Technically Dinh said it was Ann's kohaku but I'm sure that Daddy had something to do with picking it out. Congrats Dinh and Ann!

The size 2 fish in the top 3 was awarded Baby Grand Champion. It's owned by Khung Doan. Congrats Khung!

Best Baby was awarded to the final kohaku in the top 3 owned by Chris Guila (cocoboy). Congrats Chris!

The judges then went back to each of the size classes and picked the best in size. It turned out to be a kohaku sweep with the Best in Size 1 being a little ginrin kohaku.

And the fun wasn't over. Right after the judging completed lunch was brought out. Sorry I don't have any pictures of the spread but I was too busy grabbing a plate and chowing down. Just picture several large tables filled with turkey roasting sized pans filled with salad, fried rice, vermicelli noodles, rice paper shrimp rolls, spring roles, and fried shrimp.

On top of that we had a musical performance by two ladies featuring two asian instruments - the shamisen, a 3-string lute, and the koto, a 13-string zither. (I didn't know what they were but I looked them up).

Last but not least, Chris (woodyaht) and Fran brought along their adorable 8-week old chocolate lab.

talk about a labor of love.....wow that's alot of pics and commentary to put together! tHANK YOU.....for doing that. as strange as it may seem i always like
a reporter to go off the main focus and throw in some other pics, comments of note like the lab! Just gives something additional. Great report, beautiful koi..
