Champ Koi Show - Pictures

Tom and Agnes Lai put on a wonderful koi-filled event, complete with free music, food and drinks. Champ Koi was buzzing all day long. There was plenty of participation and a great turnout for the young koi show. Thanks for hosting this great event.

Geishakoi had a booth full off koi fashions and jewelry. Woodyaht continued to make improvements on his incredible transport tank including an air assist hinged lid, brass thumbscrews air valves and clean out drain. You really have to see it to appreciate all the work that went into this tank.

There were plenty of activity planned for the koi show. The first that I took part in was the hobbyists koi judging competition. Champ put out 5 of each of gosanke class as well as 5 shiros to test the hobbyist eye.

A tent was erected on the far side of the Champ Koi shop for the show and fish started coming in. They were quickly bagged and placed into their respective size categories. Size 2 had the most competition with 20 koi.

Our judges for the show were Grant Fujita and Chai Taevanitcharoen. Aquitori was also included as a shadow judge. Grant and Chai took this as a great opportunity for a teaching exercise as well as some good natured ribbing of Antonio. As they were looking over each size class they pulled the top few fish to the front of the group and discussed the merits and demerits of each one in detail. This was one of the great advantages of having all the fish bagged.
They also pointed out what judges look for as they moved up size classes.

Almost forgot...before the judging began the fish were separated by variety for each size class to facilitate the judging. The vast majority of the fish were traditional gosanke, there were only three shiro, one in each size class. No other varieties were entered.

I don't have enough time to completely organize my pictures, I'm just gonna post them all. There should be one or two pictures of each fish. I went through the size classes twice so hopefully I got all the fish.

As you can tell, the vast majority of the fish entered in the size two class were kohaku.
