First Blue ....

Well, never have any Asagi before.... Seems like reading to much Dick B's posts here on this forum. And recently looking at PapaBear's beautiful Asagi... just want to see how Blue development in my pond.

I have learned a little bit about Asagi and would love to learn more about it. Here is the 7 1/2" blue. Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Dinh, that's a nice looking fish. The scalation looks good. My only concern is that it may get a bit too dark as it grows.-Dan

it"s a beautiful koi. I think for it's age the red is about where you want to see it.
The asagi han is a bit dark at this age so it may not be narumi, or it may be in harder water? The head is nice and clean....i think you did very well....and it pleases me to see your broaden your scope to include a blue in your collection1
well Done!

Wish it were mine

The Asagi pic I posted on the OKC thread isn't mine , I could only wish. But it is a real drooler . I thought of Dick B. as soon as I saw it .
I'm no expert, but I do like the looks of yours. Nice blue, hi coming on, and a very clean looking body. If I keep looking at them I'll have to cave in and try one myself.

Dinh-

You were able to pick a fish with even scalation and developing red. It is a bit wide at the shoulder and so maybe it will become a great large female for you. It is nice to have Dick B as a ready teacher, isn't it? He has helped us all with his knowledge.

I have one asagi that "redded up" as soon as I got it home and now over the last couple years has freckled its head a bit, too. My other asagi is still not developing red at the start of year three. Still soft blue and still without dots of blue black anywhere. They are both rocket shaped males.

For me, these fish have a warrior presense like I am supposed to be feeling about showa. Maybe it's the battleship coloration and the great silver blue flash as they splash and turn.

Good luck with your new fish and say "Hi" to the dear one, Ann.

Immediately behind the head is where the scales so often get jumbled, or are partially absent along the spine in front of the dorsal. This one looks very orderly, especially for a younger fish??

DickB: Do the scales behind the head tend to get improved alignment as Asagi grow and fukurin develops? That is my impression, but no experience with it.

The pictures posted by Tim on NI show a bit of disarray behind the head of the OKC entered fish, of which no one has been named as the owner yet. And still Tim says it is about the best he's seen. Tim was in Orlando two years ago to see those two beautiful asagis, remember. I suggest this is another application of the size / age / rarity of successful raising, equation that is brought up to explain the wonderful beauty of imperfect fish.

I have also read, most likely written by Dick, that slightly darker areas of blue scales will tend to stay that way, not evening out as a uniform blue. For me there is so much enjoyment in the blue itself that my fishs' shortcomings fade and I seldom remember they are shortcomings.

The dots and freckling of my older fish's head is much more disappointing to me that the slightly darker scalation at the tail that my smaller, cleaner fish has, somewhat like Dinh's has a bit darker color there. Both asagis that were in Orlando knocked me out.

dan, we can color it to make it lighter as it grows... Or perhaps, I need Dick to do some water adjustment for me;-))
