Do you have an air pump on your pond? If not I would add one to increase the oxygen levels.

My fish seem to congregrate either directly under the waterfall or towards edge of other side of the pond
You need to know your pond gallons and add salt at the rate of 3lbs. per 100 gallons of water.

If you do not know your pond volume multiply width x length x depth x 7.5 this will give you your total pond water volume.

While you are the store getting Amquel or Ultimate. You also need to get a salt test kit. Then stop by Home Depot and get a big bag of Mortons salt. Get the light blue bag. Its the cheapest one and has NO additives. When you put the salt in you want to use a bucket and dissolve it (edit- dont do this unless some are dead and the rest are dieing) . Your salt testing kit will tell you how much to add to get to .15. This all assumes you know how many gallons your pond is.

Oh yeah the koi are at the waterfall trying to get more air. Their gills may be damaged at this point so it is hard for them to "breath". They can recover but you need to get going. This can't wait much longer.

I would NOT desolve salt prior to adding to pond, it will knock your salt level up to quickly, just dump the salt into the pond around the perimeters, let it desolve on its own, this will allow the fish to acclimate to the salt level.

I am going to be getting an oxygen pump fitted on monday to increase the levels along with some additional plants and was thinking about reducing the number of fish in my pond.

My pond is approx 18 ft x 12ft with approx 2000 gallons in it.

Can anyone say roughly what the maximum numbers of fish should be to maintain a healthy pond environement???

We need a little more information about your pond 1st.

Do you have bottom drains? what type of pump and filtration do you have on your pond?

What are the exact measurments of your pond Width Depth Length?

My Pond is approx 17.5 inches by 11.5 inches and is roughly 3.5ft deep. The filter that is in use has a 5500 lph flow rate and is 115w wit ha max head of 3.8m. It is a waterfall and filter pump.
